I started working on this little kitten quite a few weeks ago, so decided to spend a couple of hours today just getting some texture and background more defined so that eventually when I am happy with it, I can start working on the more finer details. Having said that, I do tend to NOT follow my own stages and get a bit tied up in detail in one area and forget the rest for a bit.
This is another painting using Corel Painter and my Wacom pen and tablet. Once again I am using just a couple of digital brushes – namely detail oil, pepper spray airbrush, digital airbrush, impressionist brush, glow brush and some oil brushes that I tried out at the beginning and have no idea now which ones they were!
I have an Acer desktop PC, but my screen is a 23 inch monitor, so it’s a good size for painting. I have attached a screen shot of what this one looks like at 100% so you can see how big it is. It’s actually 8 x 8 inches, but at 300 dpi it’s quite massive! Have also attached just a small shot of it in full. I am once again using a reference photo from June’s Facebook page. She has some awesome photos that any artist can use, so if you are a painter, check her out. I can’t say enough about how lovely it is to be able to not only use reference photo’s but that you can also sell your artwork if you so wish.
As you can see I still have a lot to do and no doubt there are many more hours of layers etc for me to do, but just getting some depth and texture is my current priority. The nose for instance is just a bit of a messy blob at the moment.
Here is the shot of the full portrait. I don’t really intend to follow the actual reference photo 100%, but it will be close! The right ear looks a bit odd at the moment as I am basically just adding some shade and colour to form the ear. I will probably also do something with the background before I start working on the little tufts of fur around the ears and head, but will keep the colours.
Actually the finished pic may look slightly different, but I will see how it comes along. Hope you like what I have done so far.
