Blind dogs still love life!

Been a bit tied up with painting the rec room part of our basement this past few days so I haven’t done too much in the way of art.

While I’m not sitting around doing paintings for free any longer, I did do one for a friend of mine who had already commissioned a pet portrait from me last year and when I heard that her lovely little dog Cooper was going blind, I just felt compelled to paint a pic of him with his eyes all nice and bright.

I know we pet lovers (or slaves) feel so sad when our pets are facing illness or disability and in the cases of the two pets included here, blindness.

My old friend Debs dog Jogi is not only blind, but actually had to have his eyes removed due to a horrible and unexpected infection.  However years later he is still running around like a crazy dude and just loving life.    It always amazes me that our animal companions can adapt to their circumstances and still enjoy themselves and it is us, the owners who feel bad about it for the longest time.  They can teach us so much!

So without further ado, here are the paintings of both Cooper and Jogi.  No matter what has happened, they are totally loved as part of their families, and really that’s what life is about for our four (or less) legged friends.  You might ‘see’ with your eyes, but you feel with your heart.

Self taught artist back living in New Zealand after more than a decade of living in Canada. Starting over in more ways than one but always up for the challenge!
